This isn’t to make the claim that practicing photography is an act of faith.* Nor is it meant to be snarky.** But I really like positioning both photography and faith as activities which encourage us to see and discover new things in our world.
*I’m already on record that I treat it as more of a zen activity.
**Though the snark path is super easy to go down.
It’s very easy to treat faith as something which requires a closed mind and tunnel vision. Photography is an activity which requires focus and the ability to edit and crop out anything extraneous. I love the idea that both require belief, the willingness to get out into the world, and the ability to open our minds and eyes to things we can’t conceive of.
